A note from the Chair of the Policy Committee, Liz Lilly:

Hello! I am looking forward to the upcoming Policy Convention, and I hope you will be able to attend.

In 2023, the Policy Committee hosted a series of online events entitled “A New Politics for BC.” Based on the feedback from those events and other engagements with party members and caucus, the policy document was extensively rewritten. Last year's election delayed the review of the document, so I am excited to present the draft new version to you at the convention for you to discuss and provide feedback.

To review a copy of the document, click here.

The document does not include any new policies per se. The policies themselves (which are in italics in the document) are the same as in the previous version: "BC Green Policy: A 21st Century Vision for the Future". This version provides an in-depth explanation of the BC Greens’ philosophy and how it is so different from the ideologies of the other parties. It sets out our agenda for a wellbeing economy and identifies 45 policy areas that are critical to the achievement of a wellbeing economy. The existing policies have been organized within the 45 policy areas, although there are gaps where we do not currently have member-approved policies.

At the convention, you will be able to discuss the elements of the document with others. We will also use a phone app to enable you to provide real-time feedback.

I hope you will review the document prior to the convention and come ready to engage in lively conversation! It is a long document and you may wish to print out a copy or have it downloaded on a device to reference at the convention. If you do not have access to a printer or a suitable device, you may request a printed copy for you to pick up at the convention.

Our keynote speaker at lunch will be Jo-Ann Roberts, who will discuss “democracy.” Her book, “Storming the Ballot Box,” has just been published, and it promises to be timely. To close out the day, party leaders will hold a fireside chat. They will discuss the qualities of leadership required in the present environment and, in particular, the qualities they hope to see in the new BC Greens leader.

It has been a while since we last met for a policy convention, and I am looking forward to seeing you again!

-Liz Lilly, Chair of the BC Greens Policy Committee
